Access platforms — cherry pickers, scissor lifts, booms — are the safer, faster, more efficient alternative to scaffolding for most work-at-height jobs. Where you'd previously erect a scaffold over a weekend, get a platform delivered Monday morning, drive it into position, and the worker is at height in 5 minutes.

Types we hire

Scissor lifts (8–18m)

Vertical-only lift, large platform area, perfect for indoor maintenance work — ceilings, light fittings, ductwork, mezzanine inspections. Electric (indoor / clean environments) and diesel (outdoor / construction). Working heights from 8 metres up to 18 metres in the rough-terrain variants.

Articulated boom lifts (12–32m)

The "cherry picker" most people picture. Articulated boom can reach over obstacles, around buildings, into tight access. Diesel for outdoor work, hybrid (electric drive + diesel charge) for sites with noise / emission restrictions. Working heights from 12 metres up to 32 metres.

Telescopic boom lifts (18–45m)

Straight-boom design for maximum horizontal reach — the right tool when you need to reach 20+ metres outwards rather than just up. Plant maintenance, comms tower work, signage installation, building inspections. Up to 45 metres working height in the largest units.

Spider lifts (15–25m)

Tracked compact platforms — like spider cranes but with a personnel basket. Indoor work, atrium maintenance, museum installations. Lightweight and narrow (under 1.2m) for floor-loading-restricted environments.

Where access platforms shine

• Plant & factory maintenance. Light fittings, ducting, conveyor servicing, structural inspections.
• Building & facade work. Cladding installation, paint, signage, window cleaning, gutter clearing.
• Tank farms & refineries. Inspection, valve maintenance, structural work at height.
• Telecoms & signage. Comms mast work, billboard maintenance, antenna installation.
• Tree work & arboriculture. Pruning, removals, where ladder work would be unsafe.
• Construction. Steel erection support, fit-out at height, finishing work.

Operator requirements

South African regulations require any operator of an aerial platform to hold a valid MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) operator certificate. We hire self-drive for sites with certified operators, or supply qualified operators where required. The choice depends on your team's existing tickets.

Power options matter

For indoor work — warehouses, atriums, plant rooms — electric is essential (no exhaust, low noise). For outdoor work, diesel gives you full runtime without charging. Hybrid units (electric drive + onboard diesel generator) are the increasingly popular middle ground: quiet when working, runtime without site charging infrastructure.
